How to Use Your Breathing Necklace 🌿

Hi! I’m Ella Cole, the creator of this breathing necklace. I designed it to help you breathe deeper, relax, and help you on your journey to quit smoking. This guide will show you exactly how to use it, take care of it, and make the most of it.

Each breathing necklace arrives ready to use with an UNSCENTED cotton core already inside. If you’re wondering why there’s no flavor when you inhale with your necklace, this is why.

To enjoy a flavor, you’ll just need to open your necklace, remove the unscented core already there, and replace it with one of the flavored ones from your flavor pack (see setup guide below).

How to Set Up Your Necklace

1. Open the necklace: Hold the top and bottom parts firmly and twist to unscrew

 

2. Remove the cotton core (to add flavors):  Inside, you’ll see a small unscented cotton core. Remove it if you want to use a flavor.

3. Choose your flavor: Open your flavor pack and pick one of the three cores. Each pack is resealable, and try to keep the pack stored in a cool, dry, dark place for freshness.

4. Insert the new flavor core: Place your chosen core inside the chamber


5. Screw it back together: Align the top and bottom and twist gently until snug.


6. Start breathing: Hold your necklace close to your lips and begin what I call the Slow Flow Technique — a rhythmic breathing pattern designed to calm your nervous system, deepen oxygen flow, and replace the urge to inhale sharply with a smooth, mindful breath.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Inhale slowly through the necklace for 5 seconds.
    Let the airflow guide your pace as the gentle resistance naturally slows your breath, helping you draw in air deeply and evenly.
  2. Hold for 1–2 seconds.
    This brief pause allows oxygen to circulate fully, giving you a quiet moment of stillness.
  3. Exhale gently through your mouth for 5 seconds.
    Feel your shoulders drop and your jaw release tension as you breathe out.

Repeat this for 1–2 minutes, or longer if you’d like. Each session helps lower stress hormones, re-train your breathing rhythm, and anchor you in a calm, centered state, especially during moments of craving or anxiety.


Replacing Your Cotton Cores

How long a core lasts depends on how often you use your necklace and how strong you like your flavor. Replace it whenever you feel the scent is fading or if you prefer a fresher one. For cleanliness, I recommend changing the core every 1–2 weeks.

Flavor & Freshness Tips

  • Store unused cores in a cool, dry, dark place.
  • Always reseal the pouch tightly after opening.
  • Rotate flavors to keep the experience fresh.
  • If you prefer a lighter scent, let the core air out for a few minutes before inserting.

Cleaning & Care

  • Clean the metal parts every 1–2 weeks or whenever switching flavors.
  • Use a soft, slightly damp cloth or cotton swab dipped in mild soap and water to gently wipe the inside chamber.
  • Dry thoroughly with a clean cloth before inserting a new core.
  • Do not soak the necklace or expose the cotton cores to moisture.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners, alcohol, or abrasives as these may damage the finish.

  • This necklace is a relaxation and breathing tool, not a medical device.
  • If you’re pregnant or have any health conditions (especially respiratory), please talk with your healthcare provider before use.
  • Keep it away from children and pets.
  • Avoid getting the cotton core wet or touching it with your mouth.

Using Your Breathing Necklace to Quit Smoking

Your breathing necklace is more than a relaxation tool. It’s a mindful replacement for the physical and emotional habits tied to smoking. The gentle airflow helps you slow down, reset your breathing rhythm, and satisfy the hand-to-mouth motion your body associates with smoking.

Use it regularly throughout the day, especially during moments you’d normally reach for a cigarette. Over time, your body begins to connect this breathing ritual with calm and release, rather than craving.

The Slow Flow Breathing Pattern

My favorite way to use the necklace is through the Slow Flow Technique:

  • Inhale deeply through the necklace for 5 seconds.
  • Pause for 1–2 seconds.
  • Exhale gently through your mouth for 5 seconds.

Repeat this cycle for 1–2 minutes. Even a single session can help ease anxiety and refocus your mind.


The 4-Week “Breathe & Replace” Quit Plan

Week 1 — Awareness

Start by observing your habits. When and why do you smoke? Each time you feel the urge, pause and breathe through your necklace for two minutes instead. This week is about noticing patterns, not perfection.

Goal: Replace 1–2 cigarettes per day with mindful breathing.

Week 2 — Prepare

Choose your quit date and begin weaving your necklace into your daily rhythm. Use it after meals, with coffee, or when winding down.

Goal: Use the necklace 3–5 times daily as your new go-to relaxation tool.

Week 3 — Quit

Go fully smoke-free. Use the Slow Flow Technique for 2–3 minutes whenever an urge appears. Stay hydrated and move your body to release tension.

Goal: Stay smoke-free and replace every craving with breathing.

Week 4 — Stabilize

You’ve built new patterns, now make them lasting. Continue using your necklace during stressful or tempting moments. Explore different flavors to keep the ritual fresh. Reflect on your progress and celebrate your milestones. 

Goal: Maintain your smoke-free rhythm and anchor breathing as your new daily reset.

Quick Craving Reset

  1. Drink a glass of water.
  2. Breathe for 90 seconds (inhale 5, exhale 5).
  3. Stretch or walk for 1 minute.
  4. Repeat breathing if needed.

Simple Exercises to Try

  • Box breathing: Inhale 4 – Hold 4 – Exhale 4 – Hold 4
  • Extended exhale: Inhale 8 through the necklace – Exhale 8
  • Grounding: Notice 5 things you see, then breathe for 1 minute
